Resources for Psychology Students
Resources for Planning Coursework
We require students to meet with an assigned psychology advisor before registering for courses each semester, but advisors are available to meet about other degree-related or career-related questions, too!
When planning your coursework, we recommend you review your options prior to meeting with your advisor to see what interests you.
Students can also view their online student profile in Degree Works through UNA Portal. Degree Works can help you customize your coursework plans and can also analyze and compare alternative plans that would work for your psychology degree. Your psychology advisor will also assist with this during your regular advising meetings.
- Students can find access to many planning resources, including their current class schedule and the course registration tool, by logging into UNA Portal. (UNA Portal also includes access to other resources, like your UNA email, unofficial transcripts, and final grades.)
- Students can reference the UNA Catalog for a review of coursework required for the psychology major.
- Students can see which courses are being offered each semester by reviewing the schedule of courses.
Class Schedule
- Students can further customize their coursework plans by logging into Degree Works.
- The Registrar’s Office publishes the dates for course registration, but we strongly recommend scheduling a meeting with your advisor before the registration period begins to avoid any last-minute setbacks.

Financial Resources for Undergraduate Study in Psychology
We will continue to update different funding opportunities that are available to our UNA Psychology Students each semester. New rounds for applications typically recur once or twice a year—so you may be eligible in the future even if you are not currently eligible to apply.
Current opportunities include:
- Psi Chi Scholarship for Undergraduate Students
- Psi Chi Research Grant for Undergraduate Projects
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) Scholarship for Undergraduate Researchers
- Sharon Stephens Brehm Undergraduate Psychology Scholarship
Please visit our Psychology Scholarships and Awards page or contact psychology@una.edu if you would like more information on these opportunities. Handouts are also available on the first floor of Wesleyan Hall, outside Room 119.
Resources for Career-Planning
Please visit our Careers in Psychology page for more information and resources on using your psychology degree.
Resources for Graduate School
A major aim of the UNA Psychology Program is to prepare students for graduate study if they are interested in pursuing further training beyond their bachelor’s degree.
Many of our students have been accepted to competitive graduate programs across the country—and a few internationally. For a few examples, graduates within the last five years have accepted offers to:
- Auburn University
- Northeastern University
- University of 快猫短视频
- University of Georgia
- University of Kentucky
- University of Mississippi
- University of Southern California
Students who are interested in pursuing graduate-level training in psychology should also review information on the process of applying to graduate school. We also encourage you to reach out to your psychology advisor for further guidance!
We ask that all psychology students who plan to request a letter of recommendation from one of our faculty please complete and supply the faculty member with the following Letter of Recommendation Form and a copy of their most updated curriculum vitae (CV). Feel free to reach out to your psychology advisor if you have further questions about this process!
Many of our students have also continued their education through related graduate programs at UNA. Specifically, our new Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) offers qualified UNA undergraduate students the opportunity to enroll in graduate coursework that can be applied concurrently to their undergraduate degree in psychology and a graduate degree. Students can find more information by reviewing our department’s options for graduate study.
We strongly encourage students who are interested in pursuing graduate study to discuss these plans with their academic advisors as early as possible. We often guide these students, based on their interests, to join our student research teams and student organizations as a way to gain additional experience outside of the classroom.
Students can find more information on student research and other student activities using the links provided.
Other Academic Resources
Students can find information about their required course materials by visiting the UNA Bookstore online or in person in The UNA Commons.
The Psychology Program emphasizes student activities in research, writing, and critical thinking. As such, we strongly encourage students to make use of outside resources on campus that can help them improve their writing and research skills.
Students can schedule appointments with the UNA Center for Writing Excellence online to receive tutoring and feedback that can improve their papers and overall writing skills.
